when i picture camping, i envision myself surrounded by tall pine trees, pine needles/cones covering the forest floor, a stream nearby, and the smell of it all (fire, smores, pine). i have been camping several times in my life: to turquoise lake, poudre river, and a week long backpacking trip in the appalachians. you'd think i was a pro, right? not so much. it wasn't until recently that camping sort of freaked me out a bit. i've got this weird fear that bears will attack or something bad will happen (look at me, being negative again). i really need to get over this fear, because i actually enjoy it. there's something so calming being away from it all and all of our luxuries, secluded in a forest no one around, and the beautiful stars up above. andrew isn't much of camper either, but i think we need to give it a try.
what we do enjoy though is a little backyard camping. it's actually fun, if you haven't tried it and you can get away from it all (sort of) without actually having to go anywhere. i've been doing this for such a long time when we had a huge backyard! my sister and i begged my dad for a very large tent (5 bedrooms) and we'd camp out in it!
i will admit that this tradition has not yet gone away, and i think it'll be fun to include kiddos in the future! i've gotten andrew to camp with me and my sister as well as pam and her fiance brock, and we've taken over the sawusch residence. they like it though because it brings all of us together! we bring out the fire pit, roast up some hot dogs and toast up some s'mores! voila.
we camped out two weekends ago but it rained so we opted to sleep indoors. but we still had fun none the less. i'll plan another one before the summer is over (which is coming up fast btw). i didn't take too many pics but just a few in front of the "campfire".
